Priscilla and Joel are at a dating convention for single farmers. Joel is an Oklahoma fundamentalist; Priscilla is a South Carolina army window. Joel slipped Priscilla his room key earlier in the evening and the play begins as she enters his hotel room. Through casual conversation the two learn that although they have many differences they share a deep loneliness. As the night progresses and the two begin to open up to each other Joel admits to being a virgin, and Priscilla soon discovers his plan to commit suicide. By the end of the play, Joel realizes that he can’t end his life because it has officially just begun.see less
